Moodle can highlight unread Forum posts, to help you keep up-to-date on message activity in your course.
The highlighting of unread forum messages is both an individual USER profile setting, as well as a forum setting controlled by the course developer.
All users can change their individual profile setting, under "Forum tracking," in your profile. This setting can be overridden by the course developer by setting the forum setting to "forced" or "off."
Course developers can allow or override the user setting for a forum by changing the "Read Tracking" setting in the forum settings.
* Read Tracking (forum settings): If enabled, participants can track read and unread posts in the forum and in discussions. There are three options:
- Optional - Participants can choose whether to turn tracking on or off via a link in the administration block. Forum tracking must also be enabled in the user's profile settings.
- Forced - Tracking is always on, regardless of user setting. Available depending on administrative setting.
- Off - Read and unread posts are not tracked.
