Transitioning from Zoom to Teams

  • When is VCC moving from Zoom to Teams for online meetings?
    By January 2026, VCC will have ended its Zoom license, and will begin using Teams as its online meeting platform.

  • Does Teams have the same features as Zoom?
    Not exactly the same, but there are a lot of similar or equivalent features between Zoom and Teams.

  • Can VCC Students access Teams?
    VCC Students can access VCC's Teams service the same way that VCC Employees do - using their VCC credentials.

  • How do I control what my Students can do during a Teams meeting?
    VCC Students should always log into Teams using their VCC credentials before or when they join a Teams meeting with their Instructor.

Meetings and Scheduling

  • In Teams, how do I schedule a Teams meeting with my Students? Is there a best way?
    Instructors can schedule Teams meetings using the Calendar inside Teams. (Instructors and Students should always log into Teams using their VCC credentials.)

  • Can I schedule a Teams Meeting from inside my Moodle course?
    Yes, although the tool for doing this in Moodle only helps you create a basic "Join" link for a regular Meeting; it doesn't allow you to choose a particular template (type) for your meeting. (Scheduling a Teams Meeting from within Teams is a better option.)

Video Recording and Storage

  • Do Teams Meetings get automatically recorded to the cloud?

  • How long will my Teams video recordings be stored in Office365?
    The storage limit for video recordings in Teams is 120 days. To keep a recording longer, you must copy it into VCC's Kaltura video platform for permanent storage.

  • Will my Teams recordings be automatically copied to Kaltura?
    This feature does not exist for VCC Teams yet, but eLSupport will pursue it with Kaltura Corp.
    Meanwhile, you should manually upload your Teams videos to Kaltura:

Integration

  • Can Faculty integrate a Class Team with their Moodle course?
    Yes, it's possible to expand your online teaching space between the Moodle and Teams environments. You can request a companion Class Team to be connected to your Moodle course, and the membership of your Moodle course will be automatically synchronized to the Class Team.
