This article will help you to integrate Cengage content into your VCC Moodle course.
By connecting your Cengage courseware to your Moodle course, you can make it easy for students to access your Cengage content and activities in just one click without logging in. Your Student's grades from Cengage activities will also be added into your Moodle course gradebook.
Note: eLSupport can assist you with integrating this external content into your Moodle courses, but we cannot help you learn how to use this platform's content management system to create or manage your content. Please consult the platform's documentation and technical support.
Adding Cengage Content to Moodle
In your Moodle course, take the following steps:
- Turn editing on
- Select "Add an activity or resource". In Moodle's Activity Chooser, select the "Cengage" activity:
- In the External Tool screen that appears, enter a name for your Cengage activity, and click on "Select content":
- Login with your Cengage credentials if you are prompted:
- After that, you should be able to select the Cengage content that you want to use in your Moodle course:
- Homework Platforms + eBook:
Homework platforms include eBook access, premade assigments, and study tools. If your institution has access to these, you will be able to select from there here.
- eBook Only:
Search from textbooks carried by Cengage. You may link entire books, or only selected chapters:
When selecting individual chapters from an eBook, each chapter will be included into your course as a separate resource.
(This can make it easier for Students to find relevant reading material, but it may also clutter your course if you have added many chapters individually.)
Manually Sync Cengage Grades to Moodle's Gradebook
Grades should automatically be sent from Cengage to Moodle every hour or so, but you can always push Cengage activity grades to Moodle manually, if needed.
How to Sync Cengage MindTap grades to your Moodle course Gradebook:
- Login to Cengage, and navigate into your Cengage MindTap course.
- Below the Class Average, and Recent Activity" headings, you'll see the "Open Gradebook" button. Click that to go into the Cengage course gradebook.
- Click the "Gradebook" tab at the top of the page.
- At the upper-right, click the "Gradebook Actions" link. On the pop-up menu that appears, click "Force LMS Score Sync".
- A dialog box will appear saying "A request for full gradebook sync is in progress. Full gradebook sync requests are limited to once per hour. If scores do not display within your LMS gradebook within 1 hour please contact technical support."
- After a few minutes have passed, confirm that your Moodle gradebook shows the updated scores from your Cengage activities.
