KB1277 - Making your own Moodle Class Team

Body

Instructors can create their own synchronized companion Class Team on demand, using the Microsoft Block.

Instead of asking eLSupport to create a companion Class Team for your Moodle course, you can trigger its creation yourself using the Microsoft Block.
This "DIY" process can be completed within a few clicks, in just a few minutes - much faster than waiting for eLSupport to do it for you.

Here's how to create your own synchronized Class Team:

  • First, ensure that your Moodle course shell is visible to Students.
(If it's not ready yet, you can always switch it back to Hidden once these steps are completed.)
  • Next, ensure that you are in the Teacher role in that Moodle course. (Moodle Teachers become Teams Owners in this process.)
  • Add the Microsoft Block to the Moodle course.
    It should look like this:
  • In the Microsoft block, click on "Configure course sync".
  • In the page that appears, set "Sync option" to "Enabled", and Save changes.
  • After a minute or two, look inside your Teams app. You should see a new Class Team created, named after your Moodle course. You will be the Owner of that new Team.
  • You must Activate the new Team to make it available to Members. (New Teams made by this mechanism are not automatically active upon creation.)
  • After activation, you will see your Moodle course Students all become Members of the new Team.

Re-hide your Moodle shell if you need to. (Your Class Team will stay in place.)
