Storing a copy of your Moodle shell is called "making a backup".
A backup is like a snapshot of the current state of your shell, and it's stored in a file format called "mbz".
Backing up your Moodle course shell
(Video, 2:40)
- From the main page of the course, click on "More" at the top of the course page, and select "Course reuse"
- On the next page, in the list at the top-left , select "Course backup".
- Leave all settings as they are. Scroll down and click on "Jump to final step".
- WAIT while the backup is processed (This can take several minutes - even HOURS in some cases -- depending on the number and size of files that are in the course.). If your backup is taking a long time, you CAN continue to work on other things within Moodle, and even log out and come back. You will receive a notification message when the backup is complete.
- The next screen will show “The backup file was successfully created.” Click on "Continue".
- You should now see a copy of your course in the form of a “.mbz” file, in the Course backup area. Check the day, date and time under the “Time” column to confirm that it’s there. If not, try the process again, or contact eLearning Support at eLSupport@vcc.ca.
- Now, to keep an offline “archive” of the course, single-click on the “Download” link, located to the right of the file, to download to your computer or other SECURE storage location such as your department’s local drive.
