KB1347 - Using TinyMCE Text Editor

Body

In August 2025, VCC upgraded to Moodle 4.5, and Moodle's default text editor changed from Atto to TinyMCE.
(Going forward, TinyMCE is the official default editor in Moodle.)

TinyMCE uses menus in addition to icons, in order to better organize its many features.

Here's the default view of TinyMCE in Moodle:

Here's TinyMCE when expanded (using the "[...]" icon on the right):

In Moodle 4.5, the Atto editor is still available from your "Editor Preferences" option in your Moodle profile. You can switch your preferred editor to Atto or back to TinyMCE whenever you like.
(Note: In the future after VCC upgrades to Moodle version 5.x, the Atto editor will be officially retired and removed, and TinyMCE will remain the default editor in VCC Moodle.)
